Cleanings & Periodontal Treatments

It’s essential to brush and floss at least twice per day to maintain your oral health, but the more the better! Brushing removes harmful bacteria that could continue to build until you are left with cavities and infection. Beyond your normal brushing, we recommend coming in for a professional cleaning twice per year.

What Happens During a Cleaning?

When you see us for a professional cleaning, one of our highly trained dental hygienists will first use a scaler to remove all the hardened plaque and tartar from your teeth. The next step will be a thorough brushing, followed by flossing.

Once the cleaning is finished, we’ll have you rinse with a high concentration of fluoride, which will help guard against bacteria and strengthen your enamel.

How is Periodontal Disease Treated?

Often due to neglect, sometimes plaque can begin to build up underneath the gum. This can cause various symptoms, such as bleeding, bad breath, swelling, and pain. We can treat this issue with a process called scaling and root planing.

Using a scaler, the dentist will remove the plaque and smooth the tooth roots so the area can heal.

Why it’s Important to Practice Good Oral Hygiene

If you consistently brush and see us for your bi-annual cleanings, you will have a much greater chance of avoiding oral health issues caused by plaque and tartar.

We will be able to catch any potential problems before they develop into something more serious. Dental sealants are also available for those who are more prone to developing cavities.
